PUGET SOUND HERDING GROUP ASSOCIATION
FARM DOG CERTIFICATION WORKSHOP
PSHGA will host a Farm Dog Certification Workshop on Saturday, June 19, 2021. It will be held at Melinda Galt’s farm, 28119 S.E. 216th St. Maple Valley, WA.
Melinda will serve as the instructor. This will be a practice workshop and not the actual test. The Farm Dog Certification Test is similar to the Canine Good Citizen Test but with a farm application. There are 12 elements to the actual test. The AKC website has details.
The workshop has 10 slots available for handlers with dogs at a cost of $20.00 each. The workshop may be audited without a dog for $10.00.
This event will be from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The deadline for sign-up is June 10. Please respond ASAP to Sharon Olsen (corgicapers@gmail.com) if you plan to attend. The 10 dog/handler slots are expected to fill quickly.
We will hold a brief business meeting around noon. Because of COVID, we will not have a potluck. Bring your own lunch and beverage, plus a lawn chair and crate, etc. for your dog. Dogs must wear a flat collar and a 4 to 6 foot leash. Bitches in season are not allowed. In the actual test, dogs must be at least 9 months old.
There is a portable toilet on site, but no shelter. We will need to bring a few shade tents.
Upon arrival, all attendees will be required to register and sign a COVID Release form. All COVID protocols will be followed with social distancing. Masks are mandatory. Spectators will not be allowed, per King County rules.
We hope to host the actual test sometime this fall. A dog must pass the Farm Dog Certification test twice under two different judges to earn the AKC title.
We are looking forward to seeing everyone again and exploring a new dog activity.
